Born From a Dream Interrupted
Our founder witnessed firsthand how Nigeria’s admission crisis derails futures. Back2Basics Youth Empowerment Fundation exists to ensure no young person loses their purpose to a broken system.
About Us
Back2Basics Youth Empowerment Foundation was born from a deeply personal encounter—one that mirrors the silent struggle of countless Nigerian youths.
When our founder began university, she quickly noticed a troubling pattern. Many of her coursemates weren’t in their chosen fields—they had simply ended up there. A large number had originally applied to study Medicine, but due to Nigeria’s severely limited admission slots (with over 1.7 million applicants each year and less than 30% gaining university admission), they were shuffled into courses they neither understood nor felt connected to—without counselling, preparation, or choice.
One young man wanted to be a doctor but was studying French. Another had hoped to become an engineer but was rerouted into Biochemistry. These were not exceptions—they were the norm. In a system where career counselling is scarce and access to career mentorship is limited, young people often make life-altering academic and career decisions based on what is available, not what aligns with their strengths, passions, or dreams.
More About Us
Back2Basics Youth Empowerment Foundation was created to rewrite that story.
We exist to help young people reconnect with who they are at their core—beyond grades and societal expectations—and to empower them to make informed, confident decisions about their education and future careers. Through mentorship, skills discovery programmes, and advocacy, we work to build a generation of purpose-driven leaders who are not boxed into convenience but guided by clarity.
At Back2Basics Youth Empowerment Foundation, we believe that every young person deserves the right start, and we are here to make sure they find it.
